Wed Apr 30 05:21:17 UTC 2025: ## Hubballi Council Debates Water Shortages and Veterinary Officer’s Continued Employment

**Hubballi, Karnataka, April 30, 2025** – The Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) council meeting on Tuesday saw heated debates over irregular water supply and the continued employment of a veterinary officer despite a council resolution to remove him.

Councilors from both the ruling and opposition parties voiced concerns about intermittent water supply throughout March and April, with some reporting water delivery only every 8-15 days. Municipal Commissioner Rudresh Ghali attributed the shortages partly to a 24-hour power outage in March, citing an ongoing investigation by a technical committee. He also noted delays in laying new water lines due to land acquisition issues with farmers, which the Mayor, Ramanna Badiger, stated were now resolved. The Mayor further directed the commissioner to secure a separate power feeder line for the water supply network.

A separate contentious issue involved Dr. A.G. Kulkarni, a veterinary officer. BJP councilor Thippanna Majjagi strongly objected to the officer’s continued employment, despite a previous council resolution to remove him from municipal duty. The Commissioner clarified that Dr. Kulkarni’s reinstatement was due to staff shortages and approved by the Mayor. This explanation failed to satisfy Majjagi, who demanded an apology from the commissioner. The Mayor ultimately ruled that steps would be taken to comply with the council’s original resolution. The meeting also passed a resolution condemning the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
