WASHINGTON – Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) has introduced seven articles of impeachment against former President Donald Trump, accusing him of various offenses including obstruction of justice, abuse of power, and international aggression. Thanedar’s announcement comes as the White House vehemently denies any wrongdoing, calling the impeachment effort a “reckless political act.”
The articles allege that Trump’s actions have undermined the justice system and violated the separation of powers. The White House, in response, claims that President Trump’s actions are “fully lawful” and reflect the will of the American people. They further accuse Democrats of prioritizing illegal immigration over the safety and well-being of American citizens.
Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) declined to comment on whether Democrats would prioritize impeaching Trump should they regain control of Congress in the upcoming elections. This impeachment push is unlikely to succeed in the currently Republican-controlled House, mirroring the fate of two previous impeachment attempts against Trump during his presidency. Both prior impeachment efforts failed to garner enough Senate votes for conviction.
Thanedar, a first-term congressman, served in the U.S. House of Representatives since early 2023. He previously stated that Trump represents a “clear and present danger” to the nation’s constitution and democracy.
