**Puducherry, April 30, 2025** – A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator in Puducherry, A. John Kumar, has strongly criticized the Union Territory’s government for its alleged failure to maintain law and order. His statement follows the recent murder of Uma Shankar, the former vice-president of BJP Yuva Morcha, on April 26th.

Mr. Kumar, addressing a press conference Wednesday, described the law and order situation as significantly deteriorated. He linked the murder, committed by a bike-borne gang, to the government’s perceived inadequacy in addressing escalating crime. Eleven individuals, including the alleged mastermind Karuna, have been arrested in connection with the killing, which police attribute to pre-existing animosity between the victim and the accused.

Mr. Kumar, a supporter of the deceased, has demanded the case be transferred to the CB-CID for investigation and stated he will raise the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He highlighted the murder as a stark example of the government’s shortcomings in ensuring public safety.
