**Kozhikode, Kerala, April 30, 2025** – The malfunctioning escalator on Kozhikode’s mechanized foot overbridge, connecting the mofussil bus stand and V.K. Krishnamenon Indoor Stadium, will finally be repaired. The escalator, a key feature of the state’s first such bridge opened in 2020, broke down four months ago, causing significant inconvenience to commuters, particularly those with disabilities.
Kozhikode Corporation Mayor Beena Philip announced that the maintenance company has been instructed to expedite repairs, originally estimated to take three months. While a worn-out connecting belt and the need for custom-made replacement parts contributed to the delay, the Mayor stated that the corporation has pushed for faster action. Despite this, the repair work is still expected to take at least two more months to complete.
