Tue Apr 29 23:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Red Sox’s Duran Targeted by Fan After Revealing Suicide Attempt

**Cleveland, OH** – Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, who recently disclosed a past suicide attempt in a Netflix documentary, was subjected to inappropriate comments from a fan during Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians. The incident occurred after Duran flied out in the seventh inning of the Red Sox’s 13-3 victory.

Duran, visibly upset, glared at the fan seated near the dugout. Quick action by Red Sox teammates, coaches, umpires, and Progressive Field security personnel prevented further confrontation. Security apprehended the fan and removed them from the stadium.

The Guardians issued a statement apologizing to Duran and the Red Sox, stating they had identified the fan and were collaborating with Major League Baseball to determine appropriate action.

While this was the first instance of such taunting since the release of the Netflix documentary, “The Clubhouse: A Year With the Red Sox,” Duran acknowledged the risk associated with sharing his personal struggles. He expressed gratitude for the support of his teammates, coaches, and many fans.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora praised both the swift response of security and Duran’s self-control, contrasting it with a previous incident last season where Duran received a suspension for using an anti-gay slur towards a heckling fan. Cora emphasized the importance of mutual respect between players and fans.

Despite the unsettling incident, Duran had an outstanding weekend series, going 7-for-15 with three RBIs, including a stolen home plate in Saturday’s game – Boston’s first in 16 years. His strong performance against left-handed pitchers was a particular highlight. The incident, however, served as a sobering reminder of the challenges athletes face when sharing vulnerable aspects of their lives.
