Wed Apr 30 07:41:36 UTC 2025: ## Supreme Court Stays CBI Probe Against Kerala Chief Minister’s Top Aide

**NEW DELHI, April 30, 2025** – The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into disproportionate assets allegations against K.M. Abraham, Chief Principal Secretary to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The Court issued a notice to the CBI following a special leave petition filed by Mr. Abraham, who also heads the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).

The Kerala High Court had earlier ordered the CBI investigation based on a petition by activist Jomon Puthenpurackal. The High Court cited Mr. Abraham’s cabinet-rank position and concerns about a potential lack of public confidence in a state-level investigation. The High Court’s decision followed its rejection of a plea for a vigilance probe into allegations of disproportionate wealth against Mr. Abraham.

The High Court noted inconsistencies in Mr. Abraham’s claims regarding the acquisition of a Kollam shopping complex and his wife’s property holdings. The Court found Mr. Abraham’s assertion that he spent no money on the complex and that his wife acquired no property during his service period to be unconvincing, based on presented evidence.

Mr. Abraham alleges a conspiracy to denigrate him and has reportedly requested a police inquiry from the Kerala Chief Minister. The Supreme Court’s stay on the CBI probe temporarily halts the investigation pending further proceedings.
