**Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu, April 30, 2025** – The 95th anniversary of the Vedaranyam Salt Satyagraha was observed today with a symbolic salt collection ceremony at the Salt Satyagraha memorial in Agasthiyampalli. The event, attended by prominent Congress leaders and activists, commemorated the pivotal role of the 1930 movement in India’s struggle for independence.
Led by C. Rajagopalachari, the Vedaranyam Salt Satyagraha, a key moment in the fight against the British salt tax, saw significant participation from freedom fighter Sardar Vedarathnam. This year’s commemoration included a memorial rally culminating in Vedaranyam on April 28, followed by a day-long fast and the central ceremony today.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai, along with former Union Minister K.V. Thangkabalu, Mayiladuthurai MP R. Sudha, and other dignitaries, paid tribute to the freedom fighters. Selvaperunthagai emphasized the crucial role played by Muslims in India’s independence movement. The event concluded with speeches highlighting the historical significance of the Salt Satyagraha and its continuing relevance.
