**New Delhi, April 30, 2025** – The Indian National Congress has issued a stern warning to its leaders, threatening disciplinary action against anyone deviating from the party line regarding the recent Pahalgam terror attack. This follows a series of controversial comments by several Congress figures, which the BJP seized upon to accuse the party of being pro-Pakistan and speaking on behalf of terrorists.
A letter from AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal instructed all party functionaries to adhere strictly to the Congress Working Committee’s (CWC) official resolution on the attack. Any public statements contradicting this resolution will be met with strict disciplinary measures, Venugopal stressed. The CWC resolution, adopted on April 24th, expresses the party’s condemnation of the attack and its solidarity with the nation.
The controversy also involves a since-deleted social media post depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “missing” during the crisis. The BJP condemned the image as offensive and reminiscent of the “sar tan se juda” (sever head from body) slogan.
The Pahalgam attack, which occurred on April 22nd, resulted in the deaths of 26 people, mostly tourists. While expressing grief and demanding accountability from the government, Venugopal emphasized the need for unity and responsible communication from within the Congress party at this critical juncture. The incident sparked a public row, with figures like Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and others making controversial statements about the attack and the need for war with Pakistan.
