**New Delhi, April 30, 2025** – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of reneging on its promise to provide financial aid to women in Delhi under the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. AAP claims the BJP, which promised ₹2,500 monthly aid to eligible women ahead of the February 8th Delhi elections, is now planning to severely restrict eligibility.
AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj alleges the BJP is considering limiting the scheme to women over 21, excluding 18-21 year olds who voted for the party. He further claims the BJP intends to limit benefits to only one woman per family, despite soliciting votes from all eligible women.
While Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has allocated ₹5,100 crore for the scheme and it has received cabinet approval, the implementation date remains unannounced. The BJP has yet to respond to AAP’s allegations. The delay and alleged restrictions have fueled accusations that the BJP’s pre-election promise was a mere ploy to win votes.
