**Bengaluru, India (April 30, 2025)** – Cubbon Park in Bengaluru hosted a unique interactive art installation on Sunday, transforming the green space into a living tapestry of stories. Artist Karthika Sakthivel’s “Sonic Picnics” used a large, touch-sensitive picnic blanket embedded with audio technology to share the memories and experiences of people connected to the park.
The project, part of the India Foundation For The Arts’ Project 560 program, allowed participants to listen to recorded interviews and personal anecdotes through headphones connected to the blanket. The stories, ranging from childhood memories to recent changes in park regulations, created a shared auditory experience fostering community connection. Sakthivel explained the project as a social experiment aimed at encouraging active listening and bridging the gap between individual experiences. The blanket itself, inspired by the artist’s previous work with the British Library, acts as a symbolic embrace, connecting listeners to the narratives unfolding.
The initiative received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with participants praising its ability to showcase the park’s enduring significance across generations. Sakthivel plans to expand the project, envisioning future iterations in different forms, highlighting the malleability of the chosen medium and the ever-evolving nature of community storytelling.
