**Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh –** Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to relaunch the construction of the Amaravati capital city on May 2nd, laying the foundation stone for several key projects. The event marks a significant step forward after delays caused by a change in government and subsequent legal and financial challenges.
According to Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, P. Narayana, the government aims to complete the capital city within three years, based on the original master plan. The Prime Minister will inaugurate construction on projects totaling over ₹64,000 crore, with ₹43,000 crore already allocated to contractors. This includes the construction of a 250-foot iconic structure, a 50-storey government complex, a high court, a legislative assembly building, and 4,000 residential apartments. Infrastructure projects such as roads and a statue of N.T. Rama Rao are also included.
Mr. Narayana attributed previous delays to the previous government’s proposal of three capitals, creating significant hurdles. He stated that the current government has overcome these challenges and is working to acquire additional land for projects such as an airport and ring roads. While the airport and other major projects will require additional time, the Minister assured that the Prime Minister’s visit signals a commitment to completing the Amaravati capital city within three years. He highlighted the government’s allocation of developed plots to local farmers and ongoing land acquisition to facilitate the project’s completion. The minister also emphasized the continued financial support provided by the Prime Minister for the development of Amaravati.
