Tue Apr 29 14:55:21 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Launches Private Industrial Estates to Boost Economy

**KOCHI, KERALA –** The Kerala state government has announced the approval of three private industrial estates in Ernakulam district, marking a significant step in its flagship program to address land scarcity for industries. The initiative, which has been in the works for years, aims to bring 350 acres of land under industrial use.

Industries Minister P. Rajeeve stated that out of 33 private industrial estates currently under development, three have received approval following inspections, with two more awaiting final clearance. The government is providing financial support of up to ₹3 crore per estate. Two estates have already been inaugurated, located in Angamaly, Muvattupuzha, and Kothamangalam.

The project, initially conceived by the United Democratic Front, has overcome technical delays to launch under the current Left Democratic Front (LDF) government. The minimum land requirement for a private estate is 10 acres, though a standard factory can fit within five. Land selection excludes environmentally sensitive areas, coastal regulation zones, and paddy/wetland regions.

A. Nizaruddeen, president of the Kerala State Small Industries Association, welcomed the initiative, highlighting its importance in tackling land availability issues. While acknowledging that the government incentives are currently insufficient, he expressed hope that they would encourage further participation. The minister expects at least one estate to become operational during the LDF’s current term. The estates are projected to attract substantial investment and create numerous employment opportunities.
