CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The University of Illinois Fighting Illini men’s basketball team announced Monday the addition of Andrej Stojakovic, a highly touted transfer guard, to their roster. Stojakovic, a junior, joins the Illini after a stellar season at Cal, where he averaged 17.9 points per game, leading the team and ranking sixth in the ACC.
The 6-foot-7, 205-pound guard brings a wealth of experience and scoring ability to Illinois. Head Coach Brad Underwood praised Stojakovic’s versatility, noting his proficiency in catch-and-shoot situations, off the dribble, and in post-up plays. Underwood also highlighted his defensive skills and high basketball IQ.
Stojakovic’s impressive statistics speak for themselves. He scored in double figures in 25 of 29 games, including 13 games with 20+ points and three games exceeding 30 points. His standout performances included a career-high 37 points against Stanford in the ACC Tournament. He also led Cal in blocks with 34 on the season. Before transferring to Cal, Stojakovic played his freshman year at Stanford.
A McDonald’s All-American in 2023, Stojakovic boasts an impressive pedigree. He is the son of former NBA All-Star Peja Stojakovic. His addition to the Illini program follows the earlier acquisition of Zvonimir Ivisic from Arkansas.
Illinois, coming off a 22-win season and an NCAA Tournament appearance, aims to build on its success with Stojakovic’s addition. The Fighting Illini are one of only four teams nationwide to have achieved six consecutive 20-win regular seasons.
