**CANNES, FRANCE** – Acclaimed actress and producer Nicole Kidman will be honored with the Woman in Motion Award at the Cannes Film Festival. The award, presented by Kering, a festival partner, recognizes women’s contributions to the film industry. Kidman, whose recent work includes the film “Babygirl,” is the tenth recipient of this prestigious award, following such luminaries as Jane Fonda, Viola Davis, and Michelle Yeoh.
The award ceremony will take place during a gala dinner. Kidman expressed her gratitude, stating it was an “honor” to join the list of previous recipients and that Cannes has been a part of her life for over three decades.
François-Henri Pinault, Kering’s chairman and CEO, praised Kidman’s artistic standards and commitment to changing representations of women in cinema. Festival officials Thierry Fremaux and Iris Knobloch also lauded Kidman’s extensive work with female directors – nearly twenty in recent years – and her dedication to empowering women in the industry. Knobloch highlighted Kidman’s role in giving visibility to female storytellers through her production company, Blossom Films, and various projects.
Kidman’s career has spanned decades, featuring collaborations with renowned directors such as Stanley Kubrick and Sofia Coppola. Her commitment extends beyond acting; she is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF and UN Women, actively advocating for children’s and women’s rights. Her recent successes include a Best Actress prize at the Venice Film Festival and a Golden Globe nomination for “Babygirl.” Last year, she also received the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
The announcement comes as Kering recently showcased a study highlighting the increased representation of female directors in the US, UK, and France, underscoring the ongoing efforts to promote gender equality in the film industry.
