Mon Apr 28 20:20:00 UTC 2025: **Nationals Rally from Six-Run Deficit to Beat Mets in Walk-Off Thriller**
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Nationals staged a remarkable comeback, overcoming a six-run deficit to defeat the New York Mets 8-7 on Sunday in a walk-off win. The victory marked the second time in three days the Nationals secured a win in their final at-bat against the Mets.
The Mets, winners of eight of their previous nine games, jumped out to an early lead. They scored seven runs, fueled by sacrifice flies from Mark Vientos and Brandon Nimmo, an RBI single from Luis Torrens, who had two hits and two RBIs on the day, and a Nationals throwing error. Tylor Megill, the Mets’ starter, pitched effectively, striking out nine batters in 6 1/3 innings before exiting with a runner on base.
However, the Nationals’ bats came alive in the late innings. After reliever José Buttó gave up consecutive singles following a strikeout of Dylan Crews, Riley Adams blasted a three-run home run to cut the deficit. In the ninth, Alex Call led off with a double against Ryne Stanek, and a series of events led to the winning run. Pinch-runner Jacob Young advanced to third, and CJ Abrams’ single brought him home. A throwing error by Pete Alonso on a grounder allowed Abrams to score the winning run.
Jorge López earned the win for the Nationals, securing the final out with Mets runners in scoring position. Mitchell Parker, the Nationals’ starting pitcher, struggled, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and five walks in five innings.
CJ Abrams’ walk-off run marked his second such performance in three days, highlighting the Nationals’ thrilling comeback victory. The four-game series concludes Monday with Griffin Canning pitching for the Mets and Trevor Williams for the Nationals.
