Bengaluru, India – April 28, 2025 – Seven microgravity research experiments from Indian institutions will be conducted aboard the International Space Station (ISS) during the upcoming Axiom-4 (Ax-4) mission, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced today. The experiments, selected from proposals submitted by Indian Principal Investigators, will utilize the ISS’s research facilities.
Three of the participating institutions are located in Karnataka: the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), the Institute of Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine (InStem), and the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. The Ax-4 mission, slated for launch in May, will include Indian astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla.
ISRO highlights the potential of microgravity research for advancements in human health, physical and life sciences, materials science, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology. The organization anticipates that this collaboration will foster a robust microgravity research ecosystem in India, paving the way for more sophisticated experiments within the Indian space program.
