Tue Apr 29 15:41:18 UTC 2025: **Karnataka Governor Urges Reversal of BJP MLA Suspensions**
Bengaluru, April 29, 2025 – Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has intervened in the ongoing dispute over the suspension of 18 BJP MLAs, urging Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Speaker U.T. Khader to reconsider their decision. In letters addressed to both officials, Governor Gehlot emphasized the importance of upholding democratic values and allowing the suspended MLAs to resume their duties.
The governor’s action follows a meeting with a BJP delegation led by State president B.Y. Vijayendra and Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok. The delegation requested the Governor’s intervention after the MLAs were suspended for six months during the Budget session for disruptive behavior, including protests demanding a judicial or CBI probe into allegations against Minister K.N. Rajanna. The BJP MLAs were accused of “indiscipline and disrespectful behaviour” towards the Speaker.
Governor Gehlot’s letter cites the BJP’s memorandum, stating that he desires a positive response to reinstate the MLAs, enabling them to fulfill their roles as representatives of the people. The final decision now rests with the Chief Minister and the Speaker.
