Mon Apr 28 22:00:00 UTC 2025: **Duke Basketball Poised to Land Top Transfer Guard Cedric Coward**
DURHAM, NC – Duke University’s men’s basketball program, which successfully retained its entire roster this offseason, is on the verge of a significant addition. On3’s Joe Tipton predicts that the Blue Devils will secure the commitment of highly-rated transfer guard Cedric Coward from Washington State University.
Coward, currently ranked as the #21 overall transfer and #8 shooting guard in the On3 Transfer Portal Industry Rankings, is choosing between Duke and Alabama. While his primary focus is on the 2025 NBA Draft, he will commit to playing college basketball for the 2025-26 season if he chooses to return to school.
In a small sample size of six games last season at Washington State due to injury, Coward displayed exceptional talent, averaging 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game. His shooting percentages were impressive, hitting 55.7% from the field and 40% from three-point range.
The addition of Coward would bolster Duke’s already strong backcourt, which includes returning players Caleb Foster, Isaiah Evans, and Darren Harris. This would create a deep and talented backcourt for the Blue Devils heading into the 2025-26 season.
While a commitment from Coward would be a major coup for Coach Jon Scheyer, it’s important to note that the senior will still explore his NBA Draft options before making a final decision on his collegiate future.
