NEW DELHI (April 29, 2025) – The Delhi government has passed a bill to regulate school fees in both private and government schools, addressing widespread concerns over fee hikes and parental anxieties. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the passage of the Delhi School Education Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees Bill, 2025, following a meeting earlier today.
The bill aims to curb arbitrary fee increases by private schools, a problem exacerbated by the lack of previous regulatory frameworks. CM Gupta stated that the bill is a “bold and historic step” to alleviate the financial burden on parents, many of whom have protested recent fee hikes. The bill will establish a three-tiered committee system to oversee fee structures.
Education Minister Ashish Sood detailed the bill’s provisions, highlighting the creation of these committees to regulate fee increases. The government has already issued notices to schools following complaints of illegal fee hikes and warned of strict action against offenders. The move comes after parents staged protests outside the Delhi Directorate of Education earlier this month.
