Mon Apr 28 20:20:56 UTC 2025: ## Assam Opposition Blames BJP for Congress Leader Attack
**GUWAHATI, INDIA (April 29, 2025)** – An alliance of regional and Left Front parties in Assam has condemned a violent attack on Congress leaders in Dhing, Nagaon district, on Sunday night. The Axom Sommilito Morcha (ASOM) accused the BJP-led state government of fostering a culture of political violence, alleging Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Assam police are encouraging political intolerance.
The attack targeted several Congress leaders, including MP Pradyut Bordoloi and MLA Sibamoni Bora. ASOM leaders Rajya Sabha member Ajit Kumar Bhuyan and Lurinjyoti Gogoi stated that such violence is unprecedented in Assam’s political history, blaming the BJP for importing a culture of political vendetta from other states. They demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
However, Assam’s Information Minister Pijush Hazarika refuted the allegations, stating preliminary investigations suggest the attack stemmed from a financial dispute rather than political motives. He emphasized that the Chief Minister has ordered a thorough investigation and appealed against the politicization of the incident. Police have identified Imdadul Islam, a recently expelled Congress member, as the main suspect.
