Sun Apr 27 23:23:23 UTC 2025: ## Vijayawada Bypass Project Nears Completion, Partial Opening Expected by August

**VIJAYAWADA, Andhra Pradesh (April 28, 2025)** – The six-lane Vijayawada Western Bypass, a crucial project aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the city, is nearing completion. According to National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials, a portion of the bypass is expected to be partially operational by August.

The 47.8-km bypass, launched in 2021, will connect NH-16 (Chennai-Kolkata) and NH-65 (Machilipatnam-Hyderabad). It is designed to significantly reduce travel time for vehicles traveling between Visakhapatnam, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

The project is divided into two sections. While the first section, connecting Chinna Avutapalli and Gollapudi, is facing delays due to a court case regarding the relocation of high-tension power lines, the second section, connecting Gollapudi and Chinna Kakani, is 89% complete. This section includes bridges over the Krishna River and two rivulets. NHAI officials state that once the court case is resolved, the first section could be completed within four months.

Although an October 2024 deadline was initially set for the first section and April 2025 for the second, delays have pushed back the completion timeline. However, the second section is now expected to open to the public between July and August. The planned construction of additional underpasses has been postponed to avoid further delays.

Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited is responsible for the first section, while Adani Enterprises Limited and Navayuga Engineering Company Limited are jointly handling the second section. The bypass, once fully operational, is expected to drastically improve traffic flow and reduce travel times in and around Vijayawada.
