BATON ROUGE, La. – The fifth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers defeated the fourth-ranked LSU Tigers 9-3 Saturday night in front of a record-breaking crowd at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. The game drew a paid attendance of 13,376 and an actual attendance of 11,439, setting new LSU single-game attendance records.

Tennessee’s victory improves their overall record to 35-8 (13-7 SEC), while LSU falls to 35-9 (13-7 SEC). Right-hander Marcus Phillips was the star for the Volunteers, limiting LSU to two runs on three hits over 6.2 innings, striking out six. Cannon Peebles led the Tennessee offense with five RBIs, including a three-run homer in a decisive six-run eighth inning. LSU countered with three solo home runs, one each from Steven Milam, Michael Braswell III, and John Pearson.

LSU starting pitcher Anthony Eyanson took the loss, allowing two runs over 5.2 innings. LSU coach Jay Johnson credited Tennessee’s pitching performance for the win.
