CHARLA, TELANGANA – A six-day-long anti-insurgency operation in the Karrerugutta hills along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border has yielded significant results, with security forces uncovering a massive underground bunker capable of sheltering up to 1,000 people. The bunker, discovered Saturday evening, features a large central chamber, water facilities, and other amenities, suggesting prolonged occupation by Maoists. Authorities believe the Maoists may have used the bunker for several months.

The operation, centered around Venkatapuram in Mulugu district, spans 90 kilometers across several villages. Thousands of security personnel are involved in the combing operation, which has faced challenging terrain. Three female Maoist bodies have been recovered, along with weapons and a significant quantity of explosives. While rumors circulated about a large number of Maoist casualties, officials have not yet confirmed this information.

Security forces suspect that the ongoing operation has severely impacted the Maoists, leading to food shortages and dehydration amongst their ranks. The operation will continue until all suspected hideouts in the Karrerugutta hills are secured.
