A new Bill amending the Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act of 1994, introduced by Rural Development Minister I. Periyasamy, grants the government the power to control the installation of these advertisements. Previously, the Act only allowed for regulations on *how* advertisements were displayed, not their installation.
Under the proposed amendment, Block Development Officers will be responsible for issuing licenses, with fees attached. They will also have the authority to revoke licenses, confiscate illegally installed advertisements, and remove any posing safety hazards or obstructing traffic.
