**Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, April 28, 2025** – A surprise inspection at Jamia Gaziya Sayyadul Uloom madrassa in Bahraich district has revealed a critical lack of secular education. According to District Minority Welfare Officer Sanjay Mishra, none of the school’s Class 10 students could write their names in English.
The inspection, conducted on Sunday, April 27th, also uncovered other irregularities, including a teacher’s absence that wasn’t reflected in the attendance register and significantly lower student attendance than officially recorded across several classes. Mr. Mishra stated that the madrassa’s curriculum heavily favors Arabic and Persian studies, neglecting other essential subjects.
Authorities have issued a warning and notice to the madrassa, citing concerns about the students’ future prospects due to this educational neglect. Strict action is threatened if improvements aren’t made immediately. The absent teacher has also received a notice.
Bahraich district boasts 301 recognized madrassas, with an additional 495 unregistered institutions, according to recent surveys. This incident highlights a broader concern regarding the quality of education provided in some religious schools in the region.
