AMARAVATI, INDIA – The suspense surrounding the vacant Rajya Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh has ended with the BJP nominating Paka Venkata Satyanarayana as its candidate. Satyanarayana currently serves as the chairman of the BJP’s disciplinary committee in the state.
The vacancy arose following the resignation of Vijayasai Reddy. The Election Commission recently issued a notification for a by-election to fill the seat, which has a remaining term of two years.
Following a meeting of the BJP’s Andhra Pradesh core committee, held on Tuesday, the party’s national leadership announced Satyanarayana as their nominee. State BJP president Purandeswari participated in the meeting via video conference from Europe. The nomination was submitted just before the 3 PM deadline.
