AMARAVATI: Suspense continues over the filling of a vacant Rajya Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh. With the nomination deadline ending at 3 PM on Tuesday, the ruling coalition is yet to announce its candidate, causing much speculation. Meanwhile, the BJP is reportedly planning to fill its quota for the seat.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, after a recent overseas trip and meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, is said to have recommended Mandakrishna Madiga, founder president of the MRP and a key figure in SC categorization, for the seat.

The seat became vacant following the resignation of Vijayasai Reddy. A by-election was recently notified for the remaining two years of the term. There are also rumors that Annamalai from Tamil Nadu and former Union Minister Smriti Irani are in the running for the seat.
