Mon Apr 28 15:13:55 UTC 2025: **Local Hiring Focus of Udupi Meeting**

Manipal, Karnataka – Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary called on local industries Monday to prioritize hiring local residents. At a meeting in Manipal, Poojary emphasized that at least 65% of Group A, B, and C positions should be filled by local candidates, in accordance with the Sarojini Mahishi report. He further stipulated that all Group D positions should be reserved for local individuals. Addressing concerns about a shortage of local applicants for Group D roles, Poojary suggested increased publicity at the gram panchayat level.

Deputy Commissioner K. Vidyakumari highlighted the issue of local youth migrating for work, potentially leaving behind elderly relatives without care. She warned that the administration would strictly enforce preferential hiring of Kannada-speaking residents if industries fail to comply. Furthermore, Ms. Vidyakumari mandated that businesses prominently display their names in Kannada (at least 60% of signage) and include Kannada information on product packaging, with fines for non-compliance. She also urged citizens to report any Bangladeshi nationals working illegally in the district to the police. The meeting included representatives from local industry associations.
