**New Delhi, April 28, 2025** – The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) reviewing the proposed “One Nation, One Election” legislation is embarking on a nationwide tour to gather diverse perspectives. The committee’s first stop will be Mumbai and Dehradun from May 17-22, where they will consult with prominent figures from the Hindi and regional film industries, among others.
JPC Chairman P.P. Chaudhary stated that the impact of elections extends to all sectors of society, including the entertainment industry, which holds significant influence over public opinion. While a specific list of celebrities to be consulted has not yet been released, the Parliament Secretariat has begun outreach efforts.
The JPC has already met with legal experts, including four former Chief Justices of India and senior lawyers. In Mumbai, the committee will also engage with representatives from the Reserve Bank of India, State Bank of India, other banks, and the Maharashtra State Election Commission to assess logistical challenges associated with simultaneous elections. Maharashtra, possessing the second-largest number of Lok Sabha seats after Uttar Pradesh, is a key state for this consultation.
This Mumbai leg marks the beginning of a nationwide tour. The JPC plans to meet with various interest groups, including labour and farmers’ unions, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the implications of the proposed legislation.
