Mon Apr 28 06:22:02 UTC 2025: ## Nepal’s Former PM Launches New Political Front Amidst Growing Discontent

**New Delhi, April 28, 2025** – Former Nepali Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai announced the launch of a new political front aimed at addressing widespread dissatisfaction with the current government led by Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli. In an exclusive interview with The Hindu, Bhattarai dismissed concerns about a return to monarchy, asserting that the public’s unhappiness stems from the Oli administration, not the democratic system itself.

Bhattarai, currently leader of the Naya Shakti Party, stated that the new front, tentatively named the Progressive Democratic Front or Progressive Socialist Front, is attracting diverse support as Nepal prepares for elections in 2027. He highlighted the public’s disillusionment with the slow pace of economic development and the cyclical dominance of three key leaders: Oli, Sher Bahadur Deuba, and Prachanda.

While acknowledging recent pro-monarchy protests in Kathmandu, Bhattarai emphasized their limited influence, reiterating that the desire for change targets the current government, not democracy. He explained that the lack of a parliamentary majority prevents an immediate government overthrow, despite the widespread discontent. Bhattarai attributed much of Nepal’s political turmoil to the incomplete implementation of the Maoist agenda, suggesting the current unrest is a symptom of unresolved issues from the revolution. He criticized both Oli and Prachanda for becoming assimilated into the existing political structure, underscoring the need for a fresh alternative.
