LONDON/PARIS/WASHINGTON D.C. – Members of the Indian diaspora staged widespread protests across the globe on Sunday, April 27th, 2025, condemning the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir that killed 26 people on April 22nd. Demonstrations took place in major cities across Canada, Denmark, England, France, Finland, Germany, Spain, and the United States.
Protesters carried Indian flags, chanted anti-Pakistan slogans, and held placards demanding justice for the victims. The protests followed the revelation of a Pakistani-based terror group’s involvement in the attack, one of the deadliest against civilians in the region in recent years. The attack targeted Hindus specifically, with terrorists reportedly asking victims their religion before killing those who identified as Hindu. This has reignited painful memories for many, particularly Kashmiri Pandits who experienced mass exodus from the Kashmir Valley in the 1990s.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated sharply after the attack. India responded with strong measures, including the expulsion of Pakistani military attaches, suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, and closure of the Attari land-transit post. Pakistan, in turn, suspended all bilateral agreements with India, including the Simla Agreement.
Police have released sketches of three suspects: Hashim Musa alias Suleman, Ali Bhai alias Talha Bhai (both Pakistani nationals), and Adil Hussain Thoker (from Anantnag district). A reward of Rs 20 lakh has been offered for information leading to their arrests.
Protesters expressed their outrage and grief, emphasizing their desire for retribution against Pakistan and support for the victims’ families. One protester in Paris stated, “We don’t represent a religion or a political party. We just want to send out a message to Pakistan.” Another in London called for a strong Indian response, stating, “We hope the Indian government gives a reply to Pakistan in a language they understand.” The protests underscored the global solidarity of the Indian community in response to the tragedy and the heightened geopolitical tensions that have followed.
