**MADRID/PARIS** – A major power outage affecting millions across Spain, Portugal, and parts of southern France plunged large swathes of the Iberian Peninsula into darkness earlier today. While power has since been restored in many areas, including northern and southern Spain and southwestern France, the cause of the outage remains a mystery.
Spain’s state electricity network operator, Red Eléctrica, confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that it successfully restored power to the majority of the country. Similarly, French high-voltage grid operator RTE announced the restoration of power in southwestern France after the widespread blackout. Both operators stated that the origin of the outage is currently under investigation.
