Mon Apr 28 05:57:17 UTC 2025: ## International Court to Hear Case Against Israel’s Gaza Blockade
**The Hague, Netherlands –** Dozens of nations will begin presenting arguments at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Monday, accusing Israel of violating international law by blocking humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The hearings, which will run through Friday, follow a December UN General Assembly resolution expressing grave concern over the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where 2.3 million residents have been cut off from supplies since March 2nd.
Food reserves stockpiled after a previous ceasefire have nearly depleted. While Israel maintains that the blockade will remain in place until Hamas releases hostages, Germany, France, and Britain have urged Israel to comply with international law and allow the free passage of aid. Even US President Donald Trump reportedly pressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the issue. Israel counters that Hamas misappropriates aid.
Representatives from the Palestinian territories will be among the first to address the court. While Israel will not participate in the hearings, the US will present its stance on Wednesday. Around 40 nations are expected to participate.
The ICJ’s advisory opinion, expected in several months, will carry significant legal and political weight, though it is not legally binding. The UN considers Gaza Israeli-occupied territory, obligating Israel under international humanitarian law to ensure the provision of essential goods and services.
