**BEIRUT, Lebanon –** Israeli airstrikes targeted Beirut’s southern suburbs on Sunday, April 27th, 2025, marking the third such attack since a November ceasefire ended a 14-month war with Hezbollah. The Israeli military claimed the strikes targeted a Hezbollah precision-guided missile storage facility, a violation of the ceasefire agreement. A large plume of smoke was visible after the attack, which reportedly destroyed several vehicles within a hangar. While there were no immediate reports of casualties, the strikes prompted panic and fear among residents.
The Israeli military issued a warning before the attack, urging civilians to evacuate the area. Similar warnings preceded previous strikes, one of which resulted in four deaths on April 1st. Hezbollah leader Sheikh Naim Kassem warned of further action if attacks continue and the Lebanese government fails to intervene. He also stated Hezbollah will not disarm while Israeli forces remain in southern Lebanon.
Lebanese President Michel Aoun condemned the strikes, calling on the U.S. and France, guarantors of the ceasefire, to pressure Israel to stop. UN Special Coordinator Jeanine Hennis also expressed concern, urging all sides to avoid actions that could undermine the ceasefire.
The Lebanese government reported that 190 people have been killed and 485 wounded in Israeli strikes since the ceasefire began. Israel maintains it is targeting Hezbollah officials and infrastructure. Despite the ceasefire agreement, Israeli forces remain on five hilltops in Lebanese territory, and the Lebanese military is deploying in the south. A separate drone strike in southern Lebanon also killed a man, reportedly a Hezbollah member, earlier on Sunday. The situation remains highly volatile.
