Mon Apr 28 17:00:00 UTC 2025: **Teenage Cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi Makes IPL History, Receives Sehwag’s Cautionary Advice**

JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA – Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old cricketer, has created history by becoming the youngest player ever to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL), specifically in the 2025 season. Suryavanshi, playing for the Rajasthan Royals, made his debut against the Lucknow Super Giants, astonishing the cricketing world by smashing a six off his very first ball. He followed this up with two sixes against the Sunrisers, cementing his status as a rising star. In his two matches, he scored 34 runs off 20 balls in his debut and 16 runs off 12 balls in his second match.

Despite his impressive start, cricketing legend Virender Sehwag has cautioned Suryavanshi against letting early success go to his head. Sehwag, speaking through Cricbuzz, advised the young player to learn from Virat Kohli’s longevity and consistency, emphasizing the importance of accepting criticism and maintaining a grounded approach throughout his career. He warned that many players experience a flash of brilliance followed by a quick decline due to complacency. Sehwag highlighted Suryavanshi’s tendency to hit boundaries off the edges of his bat rather than powerful shots and urged him to aim for a long and sustained career, like Kohli’s, spanning many IPL seasons.

Suryavanshi was purchased by the Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.1 crore (approximately $135,000 USD) at the recent IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. His acquisition, at 13 years old, for such a high price from a ₹30 lakh base price, has created a significant buzz in the sporting world.
