Mon Apr 28 13:37:17 UTC 2025: ## Fusarium Wilt Threatens Ixora Crops in Tiruchi District

**Tiruchi, Tamil Nadu –** A fungal disease, Fusarium wilt, is impacting Ixora (virichipoo) plantations in Tiruchi district, causing significant crop damage and concern among farmers. Over 50 hectares of Ixora, primarily in Srirangam and Manachanallur taluks, are affected. The disease, which spreads rapidly after periods of rain, is impacting flowering and yield, particularly during the peak flowering season.

One farmer, P. Gopalakrishnan, reported losing half his plants. A team of agricultural experts recently visited affected areas, confirming Fusarium wilt and recommending the application of Carbendazim and Pochonia chlamydosporia to manage the disease and associated root knot nematodes.

Tamil Maanila Congress member N. Rajendran has called for a detailed study into the recurring nature of the disease, particularly its link to intermittent rainfall, and the development of long-term preventative solutions. The situation highlights the vulnerability of Ixora crops to fungal diseases and the need for proactive disease management strategies.
