**Thiruvananthapuram, April 28, 2025** – The Kerala Forest Department is bolstering district-level coordination committees to combat human-wildlife conflict, according to a government announcement. Following a February 27th meeting with the Chief Minister, the department has issued orders establishing monthly meetings to assess and address the situation on the ground.
These committees will be chaired by the Minister in-charge of each district and comprise key officials including the District Collector, Police Chief, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Medical Officer, and representatives from various departments including Local Self-Government, SC/ST Development, Agriculture, and Animal Husbandry. Members of Parliament and the Legislative Assembly will also participate. The DFO will serve as convener.
The meetings will coincide with District Development Committee meetings to ensure ongoing monitoring and proactive responses to conflict incidents. The initiative aims to strengthen grassroots efforts to mitigate human-wildlife conflict across the state.
