Mon Apr 28 08:04:13 UTC 2025: ## Yadadri Thermal Power Station Averts Major Disaster

**Hyderabad, Telangana, April 28, 2025** – A fire broke out at the under-construction Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) in Nalgonda district late Sunday night, but was quickly extinguished, preventing a major disaster. The fire, attributed to an accidental electrical spark in the oil of Unit-I’s boiler, rapidly spread across three floors. However, the swift response of plant engineers using mobile and portable extinguishers prevented significant damage.

Unit-I, currently undergoing trial runs since November 2024, has already generated 278.51 million units of energy. Unit-II, in commercial operation since December 24, 2024, has generated 498.73 million units. While the state government aimed to have all five units operational and connected to the grid by May 2025, delays have been attributed to incomplete railway infrastructure for coal transport and a shortage of engineers. Currently, coal is being transported by road.
