**Mysuru, April 28, 2025** – Eight individuals have been arrested in Chamarajanagar, Karnataka, following the discovery of a child marriage. A 15-year-old girl was married to a 27-year-old man. The case came to light after a complaint was filed with the District Child Protection Unit’s (DCPU) Child Helpline 1098.
Authorities confirmed the marriage had taken place and subsequently filed charges under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. Those arrested include the groom, his parents, the girl’s parents, two of the girl’s relatives, and the priest who officiated the ceremony.
The Chamarajanagar District Child Protection Officer emphasized the seriousness of child marriage, highlighting its detrimental effect on national development and the legal consequences for those involved.
