Mon Apr 28 10:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Djokovic’s Losing Streak Continues in Madrid; Arnaldi Claims Upset Victory

**MADRID, SPAIN** – Novak Djokovic’s struggles continued at the Madrid Open, as he suffered a straight-sets defeat to Matteo Arnaldi in the first round, marking his third consecutive opening-round loss. The 37-year-old Serbian star, winner of 24 Grand Slam titles, admitted to facing a “new reality” in his career, struggling to secure even a couple of wins in tournaments.

Arnaldi, ranked 44th, triumphed 6-3, 6-4, overcoming 32 unforced errors from Djokovic to secure the upset. The Italian player expressed his admiration for Djokovic, stating that playing him was a victory in itself. Djokovic’s loss delays his pursuit of a 100th career title, a milestone achieved by only Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer.

The defeat comes at the start of the clay-court season, culminating in the French Open next month. Djokovic described the current feeling as completely different from his experience over two decades of professional tennis, highlighting the mental challenge of consistently exiting tournaments early.

Elsewhere in the men’s draw, several notable players advanced, including Alex de Minaur, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Cameron Norrie, Jack Draper, and Grigor Dimitrov.

On the women’s side, defending champion Iga Swiatek comfortably defeated Linda Noskova to reach the round of 16, while rising Russian star Mirra Andreeva continued her impressive run, securing a victory over Magdalena Frech. Americans Coco Gauff and Madison Keys also progressed. Andreeva, who will turn 18 on Tuesday, expressed her nerves but satisfaction at her consistent performance.
