NEW DELHI, April 28, 2025 – A devastating fire ripped through a slum in Rohini, northwest Delhi, on Sunday, claiming the lives of two children and injuring five others. The blaze, which engulfed over 800 shanties, sent thick plumes of smoke into the sky and took firefighters three hours to extinguish.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed condolences and stated the government is providing assistance to the affected families, including temporary shelter in nearby schools and medical aid. The government is also arranging mobile toilets and food for the displaced residents.
However, the incident sparked a political clash, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticizing the Chief Minister for her perceived delayed response. AAP’s Leader of Opposition Atishi accused Gupta of prioritizing listening to “Mann Ki Baat” over attending to the emergency.
