Authorities have yet to provide an explanation for the blast, which occurred as Iran engages in a third round of nuclear negotiations with the United States. However, the private security firm Ambrey reports that the port received a shipment of ammonium perchlorate from China in March. This chemical, used in rocket propellant, was allegedly intended to replenish Iran’s missile stocks depleted during the recent conflict with Hamas. The Iranian military denies receiving this shipment.
Social media footage shows reddish smoke preceding the explosion, suggesting a chemical compound may have been involved, similar to the 2020 Beirut port explosion. The incident raises concerns amidst heightened geopolitical tensions in the region.
