**Beijing/Islamabad** – China has called for a swift and fair investigation into the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, while reiterating its strong support for Pakistan amid escalating tensions with India. This was announced following a Sunday phone conversation between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

According to Xinhua, Dar briefed Wang on the heightened tensions between Pakistan and India following the attack, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. Wang expressed China’s close monitoring of the situation, emphasizing the global responsibility to combat terrorism and reaffirming Beijing’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts.

Wang described China as an “ironclad friend and all-weather strategic cooperative partner” of Pakistan, stating that China fully understands Pakistan’s security concerns and supports its efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and security interests. He advocated for a swift and fair investigation into the Pahalgam attack, asserting that conflict serves neither India nor Pakistan’s interests and harms regional peace and stability. He urged both sides to exercise restraint and work towards de-escalation.

Dar, in turn, highlighted Pakistan’s consistent fight against terrorism and commitment to managing the situation maturely, maintaining communication with China and the international community.

This follows earlier statements from China strongly condemning the attack. Both Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun and Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong issued statements expressing condolences to the victims and their families, while unequivocally condemning all forms of terrorism.
