**Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, April 28, 2025** – A significant boost to India’s cheetah reintroduction program has been announced. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav revealed that five cheetah cubs have been born at Kuno National Park, bringing the total number of cheetahs and cubs at the park to 29. This increases the national cheetah population to 31.
The cubs were born to a five-year-old cheetah named Nirva. Chief Minister Yadav hailed the birth as a symbol of the project’s success and India’s rich biodiversity, attributing the achievement to the favorable environment created for wildlife conservation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
This latest development follows the recent relocation of two cheetahs, Prabhash and Pavak, to the Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary. The initial introduction of cheetahs to Kuno National Park began in September 2022 with the arrival of eight Namibian cheetahs, followed by twelve more from South Africa in February 2023. Prior to the new births, the park housed 24 cheetahs, including 14 cubs born in India.
