Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh – The BJP has nominated Pakala Venkateswara Rao, currently the chairman of the party’s disciplinary committee in Andhra Pradesh, to fill the recently vacated Rajya Sabha seat. The seat became vacant following the resignation of YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy. The nomination was announced by the NDA alliance, following an agreement with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. While several names were considered, including Annamalai from Tamil Nadu and Manda Krishna Madiga of the MRP, the BJP ultimately chose Rao, a long-time party member and active RSS worker. Rao is scheduled to file his nomination papers tomorrow. The BJP’s state president Purandeswari, currently abroad, reportedly discussed the decision with party leaders before the announcement. Rao will serve a two-year term. The by-election process is already underway, with nominations closing tomorrow afternoon, scrutiny on April 30th, and polling scheduled for May 9th.
