**Madurai, Tamil Nadu, April 27, 2025** – Lakshmi was sentenced to life imprisonment by the First Additional District Court in Madurai yesterday for the 2013 murder of Pechiyammal in Periya Poolampatti. The court also levied a ₹5,000 fine. Lakshmi, who was living with and caring for the elderly Pechiyammal, was found guilty of throwing chili powder in Pechiyammal’s face, strangling her, and stealing her gold chain. The Peraiyur police initially filed the case.
