Sat Apr 26 19:48:33 UTC 2025: ## IUML Condemns Waqf Amendment Act as Politically Motivated Attack on Minorities
**Kozhikode, Kerala – April 27, 2025** – The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has denounced the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, calling it a politically motivated attack aimed at communal polarization and targeting minority communities. IUML State president Panakkad Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal, speaking at a protest gathering organized by the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board on Saturday, characterized the Act not as a solely religious issue but as a political maneuver designed to divert attention from pressing concerns like unemployment and poverty.
The protest meeting passed a resolution accusing the “Sangh Parivar” of creating an anti-Muslim agenda through the Act, intending to restrict religious freedom and undermine India’s secular principles. Thangal cited the Supreme Court’s recognition of legal flaws within the Act, leading the Union government to retract certain provisions. He urged continued legal challenges to the amendment.
The gathering called upon the Kerala state government to refrain from implementing the Act and to consult with community leaders before making any decisions, citing the examples of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, which have chosen not to enforce it. A symbolic protest, involving a 15-minute blackout from 9 pm to 9:15 pm on April 30th, was also announced. Several IUML MPs and representatives from community organizations attended the protest.
