Sun Apr 27 06:34:24 UTC 2025: ## BJP MLA Offers Compensation After West Bengal Violence
**Kolkata, April 27, 2025** – Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, visited violence-hit Murshidabad district on Friday and Saturday, offering compensation to families affected by recent communal clashes. The visit followed permission granted by the Calcutta High Court.
Mr. Adhikari, a BJP MLA, provided ₹20 lakh to the family of Hargobind and Chandan Das, a father-son duo killed in the April 12 violence. This followed the family’s refusal of ₹10 lakh offered by the Chief Minister. The MLA highlighted the family’s acceptance of his compensation as evidence of the BJP’s support for the Hindu community. He also pledged to ensure the family’s safety, their children’s future, and their pursuit of justice.
The violence, which erupted a week after the passage of the Waqf Act, saw widespread vandalism and arson, leaving hundreds homeless and resulting in three deaths. Besides the Das family, 21-year-old Ejaz Ahmed died in a police firing incident. The Chief Minister previously announced ₹10 lakh compensation for each bereaved family.
Mr. Adhikari also visited other affected areas, donating an idol to a damaged temple and urging residents to perform a purification ritual. He expressed solidarity with the victims, who are demanding the deployment of Border Security Force camps and a National Investigation Agency investigation.
Meanwhile, the West Bengal government transferred key police officials from Murshidabad and Jangipur districts, where the violence occurred. This includes the transfer of the Superintendents of Police for both districts.
