**Chennai, April 27, 2025** – Rheumatologists from Naruvi and Kauvery Hospitals urged the public to seek early intervention for arthritis to prevent irreversible joint damage and deformities. Speaking at a webinar, part of the “Healthy India Happy India” initiative, doctors highlighted that arthritis, a misunderstood inflammation of the joints, can affect people of all ages and is not solely associated with aging.
The webinar emphasized the importance of early and accurate diagnosis. Doctors explained that while there’s no single diagnostic test, a combination of clinical history, physical examination, blood tests, and imaging techniques are necessary. They stressed that timely treatment can significantly slow disease progression, emphasizing that while arthritis is incurable, it can be managed effectively through regular follow-up, a holistic treatment approach including diet and exercise, and psychological support.
The specialists warned against delayed diagnosis, noting that it can lead to permanent damage. They also highlighted smoking as a significant risk factor for rheumatoid arthritis and advised lifestyle changes, including exercise, yoga, and a healthy diet, to mitigate risk. They further clarified that while steroids and painkillers were once common treatments, modern approaches now involve disease-modifying agents, requiring longer-term commitment.
