Sun Apr 27 07:08:08 UTC 2025: **Supreme Court to Hear Plea for Regulation of Sexually Explicit Content on OTT and Social Media Platforms**

New Delhi, April 27, 2025 – The Supreme Court of India will hear a plea on Monday, April 28, 2025, demanding the government regulate sexually explicit content on over-the-top (OTT) platforms and social media. The petitioner argues that readily available pornography, including potential child pornography, poses a significant threat to public morality and mental health.

The plea calls for the establishment of a National Content Control Authority to prohibit such content and suggests a temporary ban on access to these platforms until appropriate filtering mechanisms are implemented. It also proposes the creation of an expert committee to study the harmful effects of explicit content and an oversight body similar to the Central Board of Film Certification to regulate online content until new legislation is enacted.

The petitioner claims that despite numerous complaints to authorities, the issue remains unaddressed, necessitating Supreme Court intervention to protect vulnerable populations and uphold societal values in the digital age. The court will hear the case before Justices B.R. Gavai and Augustine George Masih.
